First edition, two volumes in one (xi, 221; 196, xxi pp.). 40 illustrations, for the most part aquaprints of landscape and ruins (Gilpin calls them 'aquatinta'), but also local maps and a sketch or two. In dark green nineteenth century calf with gilt and impressed decorations to covers, edges and spine, five raised bands, absent spine labels, marbled edges and endpapers. Hinges tender, some off-setting of aquatints. A clean, bright copy of a book of travel into what was, given the year, a comparatively quiet part of the world. Price: $450.00
