Seller ID: 1691 Paris: Chez Furne et Cie, 1856. Later edition (pp. 784, Table de Matieres). Small folio (27 cm) in half leather over marbled paper, gilt titles and decoration to spine, marbled epps. Illustrated with thirty-one hand-coloured lithographs of various mammals, tissue guards, on heavy card. Text in French. Binding worn on the edges, text clean, bright, and sound. Fine plates illustrating elephant, rhinoceros, tiger, giraffe, etc. The fourth volume of the thirty-six published in Buffon's lifetime (1707- 1788), noteworthy for its refined illustrations.
