First edition (pp. 605, 20, 20). ‘A description of many of the towns and villages in the Western Province of the Cape Colony…with notes on the climate of South Africa and much information respecting the natives, of whom Mr. O’Haire remarks, with not a word about the Irish, “ The Kaffirs are brave and intelligent, the Corrannas wicked, the Bushmen savage, the Hottentots degraded; but I believe them all capable of civilisation, knowledge, and religion”’ (Mendelssohn). Said to be very scarce (in 1952)— even scarcer is this copy which is bound upside down. Wear to head and tail of spine, otherwise clean and tight. Price: $200.00
