Large quarto (28 cm) originally in half leather over paper-covered boards (spine re-built); frontis portrait of Burckhardt, large folding map of the region; five additional local maps or plans, one folding. A compilation of Burckhardt’s posthumous reports of various trips (1810- 1816) through the region for which he had acquired passable Arabic and a disguise permitting him safe passage. Re-built spine, new endpapers; boards worn at the corners and edges, title page and several pages of an appendix with chipping to the margins (without loss of text), some spotting. Price: $2800.00
